PREFACE

Basilio Di Martino

This book is the result of a collaboration between Massimiliano “Max” Pinucci; Hideaki Ozawa, a Japanese artist and researcher specializing in documentation and 3D modeling; the Italian Air Force; and two aviation experts: Stefano Cosci, for scientific consulting and editorial coordination, and Gregory Alegi, for historical consulting.

Industrialist Jacques Schneider proposed—almost as a bet—a challenge between seaplanes. Slowly but steadily, the race captured worldwide attention. It was more than just a competition; it was a technical trial and a showcase of flight mechanics with unparalleled elegance.

The result of more than twenty years of work by a team of artists and authors, this volume recounts the Schneider Cup through meticulous digital reconstructions of the hydroracers that skimmed the sea between 1913 and 1931.
